Two headers from Branislav Ivanovic helped give Chelsea a three one victory over Liverpool in the Champions League quarterfinal first-leg at Anfield.

The Serbian defender, only playing because of injury to first-choice right-back Jose Bosingwa, scored his first goal in a Blue shirt as Guus Hiddink’s team brought Liverpool fine run of recent form to a crashing half.

Fernando Torres gave Rafael Benitez’s side an early lead but two headers either side of half-time from Ivanovic and a Didier Brogba strike put Chelsea into the driving seat ahead of next week’s return leg at Stamford Bridge.

In another Champion League game, Barcelona of Spain took a giant step towards the semi-finals by thrashing hosts Bayern Munich of Germany four nil at Nou Camp in their first-leg quarterfinal.
