Jamaica tops CARIFTA Games

Jamaica ended the 38th CARIFTA Games in St Lucia last night with another medal-topping performance.



The Jamaicans finished the four-day meet with 67 medals including 39 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze to tick off their 25th consecutive victory.



They finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago, who ended with 29 medals including nine gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze.



On yesterday’s final day, Jamaica made a clean sweep of the 200-metre races.



Their half-lap victories included an Under-17 record run by Jahzeel Murphy in 20.97 seconds.



Shericka Jackson won the Girls’ Under-17 200 in 23.62, Jura Levy took the Girls’ Under-20 event in 23.20 and World Youth and Junior medalist Nickel Ashmeade won the Under-20 Boys 200 in 20.56.



Jamaica also won three of four 1600-metre relay titles last night.



Their victories included a meet record run in the Girls’ Under–17 1600-metre relay. The Jamaicans stopped the clock in three minutes, 38.09 seconds.



The Girls’ Under-20 1600-metre relay team won in three minutes, 36.21 seconds, while the Boys’ Under-17 team took gold in three minutes, 16.53 seconds.



The Jamaicans were denied a clean sweep when Trinidad and Tobago won the Boys’ Under-20 1600-metre relay in three minutes, 10.20 seconds. Jamaica had to settle for silver.
