Another vessel has been seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

Maritime officials sais a Greek-owned freighter, the MV Irene was taken in the Gulf of Aden.

This attack comes days after several pirates were killed by US and French forces after they seized an American cargo ship.

Officials said a crew of 22 Filipinos was operating the MV Irene when it was seized overnight.

The European Union Maritime Security Centre said the crew is believed to be unhurt and shipping has been warned to stay clear of the area for fear of further attacks.

A Nato helicopter has reportedly been dispatched from a Canadian warship to investigate what is happening to the ship.
