A new bill has been passed in Guyana which will allow judges up to three months to rule on cases.

The Bill was passed in parliament yesterday.

The Attorney General Charles Ramson told parliament that the time limit for the Judicial Decision Bill seeks to speed up the judicial process.

Under the new law, judges face removal from the bench if they fail to meet the deadline.

Opposition speakers claimed that judges in Guyana work under very difficult conditions.

They have been calling for more judges to be appointed, for electronic recording of evidence and for research assistants to be assigned to judges.
