Reggae Boys to play three friendlies
Jamaica’s national senior football team is scheduled to play three friendly internationals in preparation for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup set to take place in the United States from July 3 to 26.
President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell confirmed the games at the Flow Champions Cup Awards Presentation at the Federation’s New Kingston offices earlier this afternoon.
Burrell also says the Federation is finalizing plans to have a camp in the Cayman Islands.
The Reggae Boys will tackle Caribbean rivals Haiti on May 23 in the first friendly at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The second friendly will be against El Salvador on May 30 at the RFK Stadium in Washington.
The Reggae Boys will return home to face Panama on June 7 at the National Stadium in their final friendly.
The senior team’s last friendly international was played on February 11, the first FIFA date of the year, when they played to an entertaining nil-all tie with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
For the Gold Cup tournament, Jamaica have been drawn in Group ‘A’ alongside Canada, Costa Rica and El Salvador. They open their campaign against Canada on July 3 at the Home Deport Centre.
They next face Costa Rica at the Crew Stadium on July 7 in Columbus, Ohio. Their final group match will be played on July 10 against El Salvador at the Florida International University Stadium in Miami.
