Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Patrick Manning has called for a deepening of the energy relationship between the twin island republic and its partners on the African continent.

Addressing the start of a two-day African Energy Ministers conference, Mr Manning said his government welcomed the opportunity for enhancing south-south cooperation.

He says Trinidad and Tobago is also ready to make its experience and expertise available to members of the African Union.

The Port of Spain meeting comes against the backdrop of an offer made by Manning to the 8th Ordinary Session of the African Union Conference of Heads of State in 2007, to assist African countries with the development of their petroleum industry.

Since then, there has been an exchange of visits between Trinidad and Tobago and African Union states.
