Former WI captain blasts Chris Gayle
Former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd says the arrival of captain Chris Gayle from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in South Africa less than two days before the opening Test against England had set a bad example for the rest of the players.
Lloyd says as captain, Gayle should have been in England practicing with the team before the opening match.
West Indies lost the match by 10 wickets inside three days with the team dropping six catches.
Gayle was among the players who dropped catches and Lloyds thinks it contributed to the team’s poor build up.
Lloyd says it was hard for Gayle to perform under the condition because of his late arrival in England.
Lloyd, who is current chairman of the International Cricket Council’s cricket committee, further says the absence of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo from the Test series is very strange.
Bravo was not selected for the two-Test series and is still in South Africa playing for Mumbai Indians.
The second and final Test starts tomorrow.
