Sports Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange congratulated Usain Bolt for running the fastest 150 metres in history.

The Beijing Olympic triple gold medallist achieved the feat in England yesterday by winning the 150-metre Manchester Street Race in a world-best 14.35 seconds.

Minister Grange said Bolt is simply phenomenal.

Bolt’s time over the distance topped the previous best of 14.99 set by Donovan Bailey 12 years go. Pietro Mennea of Italy ran a hand-time 14.8 in 1983.

The last 100 was run in 8.70, considerably faster than his world record time of 9.69 that won Olympic gold last August.

Last month, Bolt suffered minor foot injuries when his BMW M3 ran off the road and crashed into a ditch on a highway just outside Kingston.
