French Open Round Up

Former world number one Jelena Jankovic advanced to the second round of the French Open with a rain-interrupted 6-2, 6-3 victory over Petra Cetkovska.



The Serbian fifth seed was quickly into her stride and, despite a two-hour rain break, ran away with the first set.



Cetkovska made too many errors in the second set as Jankovic wrapped up her victory.



Second seed Serena Williams was given a huge scare before beating world number 100 Klara Zakopalova in a thrilling first-round match 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.



Svetlana Kuznetsova, the seventh seed, also made progress after beating French wildcard Claire Feuerstein 6-1, 6-4.



In the men’s draw fourth seed Novak Djokovic was handed an easy route into the second round when his opponent Nicolas Lapentti retired hurt. Djolovic was leading 6-3, 6-1.



Fifth seed Juan Martin del Porto of Argentina is also through after beating France’s Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.



Also through are Gael Monfils, Tommy Robredo and Marc Gicquel.
