US President Barack Obama has nominated Sonia Sotomayor to serve as the country\'s Supreme Court.
Sotomayor’s nomination now needs to be approved by a vote in the Senate.
She will replace Justice David Souter, who announced his retirement from the top US court earlier this month.
President Obama says his decision is based on Ms Sotomayor’s depth of experience and the new ideas that she will bring to the Court.
If her nomination is approved, Ms. Sotomayor will be the first woman of Hispanic heritage to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.
