Mona continue to dominate UWI Games

In the 2009 University of the West Indies (UWI) Games now taking place at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad, UWI Mona Campus has won three of the four track and field gold medals.



UWI Mona’s Renae Reid, David Dunn and Tanice Barnett registered wins on yesterday’s penultimate day.



Reid clocked 24.97 seconds to edge her Mona teammate Amanda Bailey 24.98 in the women’s 200 metres and Dunn’s 21.75 topped the men’s half-lap field ahead of teammate Andrew Nelson, who clocked 22.13.



Barnett won the women’s 3 thousand metres in 10 minutes 21.46 seconds.



UWI Mona has already emerged champions in swimming by tallying 198 points to defeat St Augustine, 189, and Cave Hill 181.



In the football competition, UWI Mona’s women edged Cave Hill 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw and St Augustine defeated Cave Hill 3-1 in the men’s match.



UWI Mona recorded a 3-0 victory over Cave Hill in men’s volleyball. The Jamaican campus also whipped Cave Hill 4-1 in tennis but lost in table tennis, beaten 5-2 by St Augustine.
