Brazilian officials report debris found is not from Air France

A Brazilian Air Force official is reporting that debris recovered from the Atlantic by Brazilian search teams did not come from the lost Air France jet.

Brigadier Ramon Cardoso contradicted earlier reports that debris had been found, saying no material from the plane has been recovered.

According to the BBC, a wooden cargo pallet was taken from the sea, but the Airbus A330 that went missing had no wooden pallets on board.

In the meantime, relatives of the 228 people who were on board the flight have been told that there is no hope of survivors being found.

Brigadier Cardoso says fuel found in the sea probably came from the plane, because it’s not the type used in ships.

However, he says a large oil slick photographed in the area was more likely to have come from a ship.
