Hydel student breaks record at Prep Champs
Jordan James of Hydel Prep broke the Class One Boys’ 400 metre record for the second time at the third staging of the Bigga/Jamaica Independent Schools Association Inter-Prep Schools track and field championship at the National Stadium.
James clocked 54.60 seconds to set a new record in the semifinal on today’s second day of the three-day meet. On yesterday’s opening day, he ran 55.58 seconds to erase the old mark of 55.69 by Omari McDonald of Hydel in 2006.
The final is scheduled for 10.45 a.m. on tomorrow’s final day.
Two other records were broken. Vaz clocked 49.19 seconds in the heats of the Boys’ 4 x 100 metres to erase the previous mark of 50.05 and Wolmers’ won the Boys Medley Relay in 1 minute 53.28 seconds to break the old mark of 1 minute 53.46.
Meanwhile, after three completed boys’ finals Ardenne High are ahead on 21.5 points followed by defending champions Hydel in second place on 11 points. Vaz Prep are in third place on 9.5 points.
And after one completed girls’ final, Wormer’s and Vaz are ahead on 11 points each followed by Ardenne on six.
There are three girls’ finals and one boys’ final today. The girls’ finals are the High Jump Class 1 and 2 and Long Jump Class 1, while the lone boys’ final is the Class 1 Boys.
The Opening Ceremony gets underway at 1.30 p.m.
