Manchester Lions take lead

Manchester Lions have surged into the lead going into next weekend’s final round of matches in the Jamaican Super Cricket League following the penultimate round of games, which ended yesterday.



The Lions have moved to 23 points after defeating Trelawny Buccaneers by 69 runs at Chedwin Park. They are two points ahead of second place Melbourne Kangaroos.



Resuming yesterday’s final day of the two-day match on 25 for one in their second innings, Manchester Lions declared on 275 for nine with Gary Graham top scoring with 109. Cordell Simpson bagged five for 50.



Needing 225 runs for an outright victory, Trelawny Buccaneers were dismissed for 156 against the bowling of Sheldon Powell four for 31 in their second innings.

Meanwhile, reigning champions St Catherine Saints also recorded victory. They defeated relegation-threatened St Elizabeth Warriors by an innings and 35 runs at Alpart Sports Club.



Scores in the game, St Elizabeth Warrior 95 and 30, St Catherine Saints 160.



Over at St Elizabeth Technical High School, the match between relegation-threatened Hanover Dolphins and Westmoreland Wizards ended in a draw with Westmoreland Wizards getting first innings points.



Melbourne Kangaroos and Kingston Tigers also played to a draw at Melbourne Oval. Melbourne won first innings points.
