The government in Guyana has launched a new strategy for transforming the country\'s economy and fighting climate change.

The new approach announced by President Bharrat Jagdeo is to be the subject of consultations over the next three months with key players including miners, forestry officials, indigenous peoples, and social workers.

One component of the strategy is a plan to deploy Guyana\'s forests to mitigate climate change.

The plan, called the ‘Low Carbon Development Strategy’ is expected to attract widespread discussion.

Officials in Georgetown said the proposal will be presented to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meeting in Denmark in December.
