Letter of the Day | Wakanda party reeks of self-indulgence
THE EDITOR, Sir:
There is rightly an uproar over what appears to be exorbitant, reckless and careless use of public funds at Petrojam. It is very important that in this time when the Government is calling on us all to make sacrifices, it be not seen that the request does not have bearing on politicians and public servants to do so.
As I read the information on the Wakanda party hosted by the Ministry of Energy, I am left to ask myself: Did the politicians who attended this exorbitant and expensive party pass fellow Jamaicans living on the street, unbathed, smelly, hungry and destitute?
Did it occur to them that in this Christian country, they should have retreated to the principle of 'I am my brother's keeper', and instead of this exorbitant and expensive splurge at the Wakanda party, they should have reached out to their fellowmen who are clearly being left behind?
If public funds were spent on these functions, a way must be found by the prime minister to ensure that those who are responsible make a refund to the public purse.
