Changes to driver's licence processing at Constant Spring tax office
Persons seeking to obtain their driver's licence will experience further delays when using the Constant Spring Revenue Service Centre in St Andrew.
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says that it has been forced to cut the operating hours of the driver’s licence department due to ongoing roadwork in the surrounding area, which have been impacting access to the Internet.
TAJ says this has affected the speed with which driver’s licence applications are processed during business hours.
The tax authority says it has since resorted to using a backup communication channel, which has resulted in driver’s licence processing taking in excess of 45 minutes and a significant backup of customers waiting to be attended to.
“In light of this unavoidable issue, the tax authority has taken the decision to close it driver’s licence processing at the Constant Spring location at midday each day to address the backup of clients, as well as the printing of licences from the related medium and small tax offices.
“This means that operations in the section will start when the office opens and close to the public at noon,” TAJ said.
Persons are reminded that they can visit either the Kingston Revenue Service Centre or the Spanish Town tax office for same-day processing of driver’s licences.
TAJ says it will continue to monitor the situation, work to find a solution at its Constant Spring location, and keep the public updated.
Persons may contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre toll-free at 1-888-TAX-HELP (1-888-829-4357) for further information or assistance.
