Battle is on for last two semi spots in JFF Tier II

The preliminary stage of the Jamaica Football Federation’s (JFF) National Tier II competition comes to a close this afternoon, with three teams battling to secure the last two semifinal spots in today’s final round of games.

Tru-Juice (third) and Lime Hall (fourth), with 24 points each, occupy the last two semifinal places. Meadforest, the only team with a chance of displacing those two, are two points behind in fifth.

Meadforest must defeat Falmouth at the Elleston Wakeland Centre to have any chance of advancing to the play-offs. A win could see them getting ahead of either Tru-Juice or Lime Hall.

Tru-Juice play away to Portlanders at Lynch Park and Lime Hall travel to Clembhards Park to play Albion Mountain, and while a draw may be sufficient for Tru-Juice who have a superior goal difference, to advance, it would a different story for Lime Hall who have a far inferior goal difference to Meadforest.

Meadforest president Daglalish Henry says his team should have wrapped up their semifinal spot already but pointed out that due to inexperience they lost two of their last three games in added time and he is very unhappy having to go into their last game relying on other teams’ results.

“The two late goals we conceded were freak goals. We have run a good leg and we are in it with one match day to go.

“Our best bet is to catch Lime Hall but Albion Mountain cannot advance, so I don’t know what to expect,” he said.

In the top-of-the-table clash, Racing United and Treasure Beach, who have already secured their places in the last four with 29 points each, will square off for top spot at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Meanwhile, Downs FC have been relegated as the Manchester-based club has taken just two points all season.

Wadada, another team facing relegation, and Hopewell, are tied on seven points, with Portlanders only a point ahead on eight.

Hopewell will be hopeful of getting a win against the already relegated Downs at Orchard Sport Complex while, Wadada will also fancy their chances against the inconsistent Baptiste Alliance at Irwin High School

In the day’s other game, which is purely of academic interest, Reno entertain Brown’s Town at Llandilo Sports Complex.

All games kick off at 3 30 p.m.
