A crying shame!
THE EDITOR, Madam:
How is it that in 2023, the 21st century, all high schools in Jamaica, both public and private, are not fully wheelchair-accessible? It is a crying shame that, as has been recently highlighted in the media, wheelchair-bound students were not accepted into their preferred high schools due to the absence of necessary amenities such as wheelchair ramps, etc.
I have no doubt that when the new STEM academies are built, they will be fully wheelchair-accessible, due to the vision and foresight of men like Glen Christian and Gary ‘Butch’ Hendrickson.
Last, I shudder to think how many wheelchair-bound persons, over the past three decades, were unable to attend the local high schools of their choice because those institutions could not facilitate them. That is a crying shame!
