Detectives assigned to the Port Maria Criminal Investigations Branch have charged 22-year-old Constable Patrick Walters with the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend D’Jonnay Graham.

He was charged on Monday following an investigation into the fatal shooting and attempted suicide, on June 25, at Graham’s home in Richmond, St Mary.

Reports are that about 9:15 p.m., Graham and Walters had a dispute during which Graham was shot.

The police were summoned and on their arrival both Graham and Walters were found with gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital, where Graham was pronounced dead and Walters hospitalised.

A file on the matter was prepared and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling. On July 17, the DPP ruled that Walters be charged with the offences of murder and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Walters was subsequently released from the hospital in the custody of the police, where he was later charged.

The incident was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
