PNP Rally | We are tired.... PNP supporters in Sam Sharpe Square want JLP out of office

Ahead of the upcoming general election on Wednesday, September 3, supporters of the People's National Party (PNP), now gathered in Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, St James for the party's mass rally, are expressing that they want the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) ejected from office.

Hundreds of orange-clad PNP followers, who have been making their way to the venue from as early as 10:30 a.m., made their position about their party's political rivals clear amid celebratory sound-system music, vuvuzelas, and waving flags.

Malvia Barrett, an elderly but still energetic PNP supporter, confidently declared that Jamaica has become weary of JLP leader and Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness.

"Mr Andrew Holness, we want to tell you that it is time for you to pack and go. We are tired, tired of you. Are you a Jamaican?" Barrett asked jokingly.

She was taking a jab at past calls from the JLP for Mark Golding, the leader of the PNP, to verify whether he still held British citizenship.

Golding himself recently addressed the issue by presenting his birth certificate, identifying him as a Jamaican citizen, during his leadership election debate with Holness last Thursday night.

Shanteka Wilson, another PNP supporter, praised Sunday's rally and its turnout.

"The rally is very good today. Andrew [Holness] nah win again, we a go win, obviously," said Wilson.

It should be noted that the latest RJRGLEANER-commissioned Don Anderson poll indicated that 37.6 per cent of respondents said they would vote for the PNP, compared to 34.5 per cent for the JLP.

Some 23.1 per cent said they were undecided, and 4.8 per cent said they have no intention of casting their ballots on September 3.
