No one, perhaps, ought to be shocked by last week's behaviour by the police personnel who boycotted the Resident Magistrate's courts in St Ann and the knee-jerk support they received from the Police Federation, their trade union.

Bob Marley is one of the finest poets Jamaica has produced. His skilful use of language - both English and Jamaican - compellingly affirms his highly charged literary sensibility. Biblical allusion, proverb, riddle and Rastafari symbolism are all potent elements of his creative writing.

Inasmuch as the male prisoner in the dock might have had a different opinion and response to the question, I am absolutely certain that the female corporal of police last week would say, "Very bad and humiliated," when asked the question, how does she feel now?

Society erects a number of barriers that keep disabled persons on the fringes. Simple everyday tasks that many take for granted can prove treacherous to the disabled because of the physical obstructions that are placed in their way by an environment which does not enable them to live a full life.
