Cornwall Beach Complex opened
Prime Minister Michael Manley officially declared open the $200,000 Cornwall Beach Complex in Montego Bay on Tuesday evening, following a brief address in which he expressed hope that the facility would foster harmonious co-existence between local residents and foreign visitors as originally intended.
Mr. Manley praised all the agencies that participated in establishing the complex.
Speaking before the Prime Minister, the Hon. P. J. Patterson, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, described the project as a significant landmark in the history of tourism in this premier resort town. He said it symbolised a bold and tangible effort to benefit the citizens of Montego Bay.
He noted that the complex was designed to offer high-standard facilities for its patrons while also creating a world-class beach experience.
Other speakers included the Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Charles Sinclair; the Rev. Vivian Cohen, who led the devotion; and Mr. Howard Gaynair of the Tourist Board, who served as Master of Ceremonies.
The ribbon was cut by Mrs. John Bradley, wife of one of the Tourist Board’s special advisers in its Special Projects Department.
