Indian High Commissioner calls on Cooke

The first resident Indian High Commissioner to Jamaica, Mr. Narendra Gupta, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, the Hon. Howard Cooke, at the Ministry on Wednesday morning.

Welcoming the High Commissioner, Mr. Cooke recalled the very favourable impact made by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who visited Jamaica recently, and spoke of the contribution Indian nationals — some of whom had become Jamaican citizens — were making to the society.

The High Commissioner discussed with the Minister the possibility of recruiting teachers from India for Jamaican schools, the printing of textbooks in India, and the procurement of audio-visual aids at highly competitive prices.

Consideration was also given to the possibility of providing equipment for science laboratories.

High Commissioner Gupta presented the Minister with a book on Indian art.
