St Catherine High mourns late matriarch
Members of the St Catherine High School family are mourning the passing of founder and centenarian Sister Paschal Figueroa.
Figueroa, who died on April 19 at the age 101, following a bout of illness, was highly regarded as a matriarch to the school.
“I remember her very well during my time at the school,” said Michelle Campbell.
“I remember her as a teacher, counsellor, mother, and a humble member of the school family.”
Campbell’s view was echoed by others, who said that Figueroa’s legacy will be permanently etched in the St John’s Road school’s memory.
“I attended the school after she had left, but her association with the school’s existence is erected near the auditorium, so you couldn’t forget her,” Nathan James said.
And Councillor George Moodie said: “We always remember the school founder who gave us our current prime minister, Andrew Holness, and his wife, Juliet, so it is very significant to the entire nation.”
