Rename Palisadoes Road in honour of Sheryl Lee Ralph

THE EDITOR, Madam:
Internationally acclaimed actress Sheryl Lee Ralph is one of Jamaica’s greatest assets. On many occasions, during interviews with American journalists, she has spoken fondly about the land of her birth.
Ralph is arguably the most famous and most successful Jamaica-born actress to date. From co-starring for six seasons on the hit American sitcom Moesha alongside actress Brandy and being an Emmy Award-winning member of the cast of the critically acclaimed American sitcom Abbott Elementary, Ralph, through hard work and dedication, has become one of Hollywood’s best and most sought-after and revered actresses.
Not only has she conquered TV, but the silver screen, too, having played major roles in films like The Distinguished Gentleman alongside Eddie Murphy; The Flintstones alongside John Goodman; The Mighty Quinn with Denzel Washington; and, most recently, The Fabulous Four alongside Bette Midler and Susan Sarandon.
She loves Jamaica and promoted it in the American entertainment media. Her son, Etienne Maurice, and ABC news journalist Stephanie Washington recently got married at Good Hope in Trelawny. She has been a part of internationally acclaimed films. Given her many international successes as a TV and film actress, I propose that Palisadoes Road be renamed Sheryl Lee Ralph Boulevard in honour of this trailblazing, talented and terrific daughter, cultural ambassador and national treasure of Jamaica.
