Another protest, another demand

THE EDITOR, Madam:
It seems that no one has bothered to tell the people how government works. The government does not have money (of itself). The money the government spends comes out of your pocket or the pocket of someone you know. That is the money which is being spent. So, if the government promises you house and land, that money has to come from your pocket in the form of taxes.
The more you ask for, the higher your taxes will climb. If your neighbour steals light, the price of electricity increases with the corresponding tax attached to it, to make up the difference.
It seems that the popular thing nowadays is selling unrealised income. What will happen when you are broke and have nothing else to sell?
