What is happening with Mahoe Gaming?
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Mahoe Gaming made its foray into the gaming industry amid much protest from then monopoly Supreme Ventures, but was welcomed by the BGLC supposedly to create more equity and variety. The introduction of its Izzizi games, in spite of the fanfare created by Mahoe, never really seemed to gain a steady footing in the minds and hearts of the Jamaican people.
The games struggled to carve out their own market or following. Agents were engaged all over the island in a robust campaign to gain market share. The BGLC and Mahoe seemed to have been on their way to creating the equity and diversity they wanted, however, the momentum of the campaign around the games dwindled and it seemed like the public just lost interest.
Now, fast forward, the company has announced the discontinuation of some of its games. Where was the energy that started this drive? You can’t expect to introduce products to a market and then abandon same. There has to be constant work behind the products to sell them and to pull people into the fold. It’s disappointing how all these heavy-handed pronouncements have fallen flat and Mahoe is yet to realise one goal it had set. Maybe it was not the games that were important, but proving that they could enter the industry! Doesn’t it make sense though, having gained entry to the market, to actually succeed!
