Tax Administration online mayhem
THE EDITOR, Madam:
On December 11, 2025, I purchased a renewal for my motor vehicle registration certificate online. I received my receipt and the new registration certificate via email. On January 3, 2026, I was pulled over by police in Mandeville, Manchester. The officer informed me that he ran my licence plate and it came back saying that the registration certificate had expired. I insisted that my documents were up to date, but this was all in vain. I was issued a traffic ticket for $10,000 to either pay or appear before the court in March.
Two weeks later, I was pulled over again by a traffic police during a routine traffic stop, and once again he advised me that he ran the plates and saw that the registration was expired.
Fast forward to February 10, 2026, I was pulled over again by traffic police, not because I was speeding or had broken any laws, but because once again, my plates were ran and it came back saying that my registration was expired.
My question is, why is the government insistent that these transactions be done online when all they do is cause grief and embarrassment to decent law-abiding citizens?
Obviously, once these transactions are done, no one bothers to update their system. I am sure that I am not the only citizen of this country who has this issue.
