Red Stripe wins top JCC Award
Red Stripe’s manufacturing excellence and breakthrough thinking to create business innovation were recognised last Thursday at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) 33rd Annual Awards Dinner at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
It marked the fifth time Red Stripe was winning the prestigious JCC award in the large enterprise category. Red Stripe had an excellent 2014 which included the installation of a cogeneration plant which will reduce the company’s electricity bill by 40 per cent with the installation of seven modern and power-efficient fermenting vessels along with a multi-flex line which allows the company to innovate at scale. Red Stripe also launched its Project Grow initiative last year, a sustainable agriculture programme that will see the company cultivating cassava for the brewing of Red Stripe beer. The cassava starch will replace imported high maltose corn syrup and contribute to positive spin-offs such as job employment and a boost to the agriculture sector and the economy.
Red Stripe managing director Cedric Blair said this acknowledgement from the JCC is a nod to the hard work and dedication of its nearly 300 employees.
“The team at Red Stripe has worked tremendously hard over the past 18 to 24 months to deliver growth for the business and maintain our high standards in quality and this award is testament to that hard work,” said Blair. “Our people are what define the company so any award to Red Stripe is an award to each and every employee.”
Guest speaker for the night, William Bullard, corporate relations director for Diageo WestLAC, spoke on ‘Releasing the Growth Within’. He drew a parallel to his own life experience as a member of the British sailing team and noted that teamwork towards a single goal is paramount if an individual or a company is to realise their full potential. He highlighted that Red Stripe had embraced that philosophy which helped the company achieve 40 consecutive months of growth.
The JCC Awards Dinner is held annually and recognises its members for overall financial performance, business growth and innovation.
