UWI Pleased with Scholarships from Total

Professor Archibald McDonald University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona principal and pro vice-chancellor and head of its Department of Government, Dr Lloyd Waller, expressed thanks to Total Jamaica for providing full scholarships to UWI students at the scholarship awards ceremony held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston last week.
The scholarships are as a result of the recently signed partnership agreement between the UWI and Total Jamaica. The awardees are Stephanie Saunders and Alexis Smith, both of whom are pursuing the B.Sc./M.Sc. in Politics and International Cooperation being offered collaboration with UWI, Mona, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of the University of Bordeaux and the Universite des Antilles-Guyane, Schoelcher.
Professor McDonald noted that, "Private sector support is very important in the advancement of tertiary education and Jamaica on a whole. I am always pleased by philanthropy and want to encourage other private sector entities to get involved in education and do their part in building our nation's talent pool."
Dr Waller, in the meantime, indicated that the degree programmes in politics and international cooperation, "offer a unique, multifaceted, and global approach to political and international studies that will redound to the benefit of the students. Beyond that the exchange component also gives students significant global exposure, thereby further enhancing the multifaceted nature of the degree programmes."
Total Jamaica sells a full range of petroleum products to the retail, commercial and industrial markets.
