Gov't to spend $352m on another national clean-up programme

The Government is to spend $352 million on another national clean-up programme.

The Cabinet has approved the contract to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) for the provision of tools, labour and planning materials to implement the Spruce-Up Jamaica All Island Maintenance Project.

The programme, an initiative of the Tourism Ministry will be undertaken over six months.

The Cabinet says the initiative focuses on creating a partnership between the public and private sectors and communities for beautification and solid waste management.

Late last year the Government faced intense criticism over a $600 million de-bushing programme the Opposition said was carried out only in constituencies represented by Government MPs.
