No Road Deaths In Three Police Divisions
With just over four months gone in the year, no road deaths have been recorded in three police divisions.
These divisions, according to the latest figures released by the Road Safety Unit in the Transport Ministry, are Kingston Western, Kingston Central and St Thomas.
It marks part of the overall four percent decrease in the number of persons killed on the nation’s roadways this year.
The Road Safety Unit says 107 persons have died in 94 fatal crashes since January 1. A total of 111 persons were killed in 103 fatal crashes over the corresponding period last year.
A breakdown of the figures shows that St Catherine led all parishes with its two police divisions reporting a total of 26 road fatalities.
St Andrew is next as the three police divisions reported a total of 17 road deaths.
The figures revealed, too, that four children have died in motor vehicles crashes this year, down from six for the corresponding period last year, while 14 elderly persons were killed, one more than the similar period last year.
