A possible review of the labour market information, educational and training data was an issue raised by Jacqueline Coke Lloyd, managing director of Make Your Mark Consultants, who indicated that this would go a far way in improving growth prospects for Jamaica.

Speaking at the annual Make Your Mark Consultants Middle Managers Conference recently, Coke Lloyd indicated that a shift is needed in seeing growth as a way of life and not a mere concept.

"The opportunity is here for us to make the right things a way of life so that growth and development become a way of life. We can and we must," she declared.

Coke Lloyd asked, "Do we also need to urgently review our labour market information, educational and training data with a view to influencing policy shifts and labour laws? Should we be moving speedily towards performance-based compensation for both the public and private sectors?"

Coke Lloyd added, "Most productive organisations have working processes and systems coupled with trained and engaged employees. A system is as good as the employee manning or using it. It is, therefore, important to have the synergies working at optimum capacity."

She also emphasised that her organisation continued to advocate for an assessment of the country's readiness to capitalise on the numerous opportunities that are available.

"Do we have the skill sets and competencies available for investors and employers? Are our educational institutions producing graduates with critical thinking skills? Do we have the required match between investor and educational output?

The managing director noted that Jamaica is poised for growth but said that it was important that strategic decisions are made in addition to implementing the required changes.
