No road deaths have been recorded in St Thomas and the Kingston Central area since the start of the year.

That’s according to the latest figures released by the Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport.

The St Thomas police recorded five road deaths over the corresponding period last year while the Kingston Central Police recorded two fatalities over the similar period.

By comparison, road fatalities in the St Catherine North Police Division have jumped by more than 66 per cent.

According to the Road Safety Unit, 24 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes across the division since the start of the year, compared to 16 for the corresponding period last year.

Seventeen road deaths have been recorded in the neighbouring police division of St Catherine South, pushing the total for the parish to 41.

The three police divisions across St Andrew recorded 28 road deaths, up from 20 for the corresponding period last year, followed by Westmoreland with 27.

Despite this, the Road Safety Unit says road fatalities for this year are down four per cent nationally.

According to the unit, 211 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes since January 1, compared to 220 for the similar period last year.
