Scotiabank Jamaica is reporting that incidents of credit card fraud involving customers are not widespread.

In a letter to the editor last Friday, a Scotiabank credit card applicant complained of being duped almost $800,000 through a card he said he never even received.

The customer also reported that early this year, his wife’s Scotiabank credit card was also compromised.

In its response to the letter, Scotiabank said it takes the complaint seriously and has been investigating the matter.

"We have been in contact with our customer and have assured him that he will not be liable for any losses resulting from the fraudulent activities," a Scotiabank spokesperson said.

Scotiabank also said once it is made aware of any fraudulent activities, an immediate hold is put on the affected cards to prevent further impact and close contact is kept with the customer throughout the process of investigation.

The bank said it continues to invest in technology and expertise around information security and sought to reiterate that the safety and security of customer accounts is a top priority.

At the same time, it is reminding customers to remain vigilant and to regularly check their accounts and immediately report anything of concern.
