Retired government forensic analyst Fitzmore Coates remembered

Retired government forensic analyst Fitzmore Coates, who died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, was today lauded in the Home Circuit for his sterling contribution to forensic science in Jamaica.

Queen's Counsel Tom Tavares Finson said for many years Coates was the chief forensic scientist in Jamaica and his contribution to the forensic science department was immeasurable.

Tavares Finson described Coates as one who was always even-tempered and professional.

Justice Jennifer Straw commented on Coates' dedication to the forensic science department and conveyed condolence to his family and friends.

Coates, while employed to the government forensic laboratory, had testified in many high profile cases in the courts islandwide.

Coates was a civil servant for more than 32 years.
