At the corner of Studio One Boulevard, there’s a big blue building that one cannot miss. From the entrance, it would appear to be minuscule in operation, but this is only what the naked eye can perceive. LS Duhaney and Company Limited has been in operation since 1965 and has become one of the leading distributors of residential and commercial electrical products on the island.

Known as the ‘electrical people’, they carry quality brand-name electrical products at reasonable prices, including transformers, lighting fixtures, motor controls, utility poles, conduits, and wiring devices, among other electrical accessories.

They are also Jamaica’s biggest wholesaler of lighting and electrical products, and they carry tools for electricians and electrical engineers, plus a wide array of products for electrical retailers.

According to Ladner Duhaney, who has been at the helm of the family-owned business since 1967, they have maintained and advanced the core objectives of the business over the years. “We continue to supply premier quality products at affordable prices. We have been on a programme of renewal, and we have been putting in new systems, expanding our capacity, and getting more competitive in the market,” Duhaney said.

With added improvements to the internal operations of the business, including the aesthetics of the retail and sales area, Duhaney said they are also working to improve the overall customer experience for the consumer.

“We understand that they not only get value for money, but that customer satisfaction is also of optimum importance. As such, our dedicated team aims to provide you with personalised service in an efficient manner,” Duhaney said.

General Manager at LS Duhaney and Company Limited, William Saunders, said they are known in the industry as the ‘sleeping giant’. “Everybody in the industry knows of us, but outside of the industry, many persons do not know of us and what we do. We are not so much into the frills of the industry, but we deliver what is required, from starter material to heavy industrial material and everything in between,” he said.

“Many distributors also come to us to get the products they need. There is some sort of sharing among industry players, but our objective is to be the premier supplier locally. As a result, we have expanded internally and optimised our storage space to increase capacity. We are also looking for potential external warehouse space,” Saunders added.

More of a wholesaler and less of a retailer, Saunders said their strengths lie in their brands, and as a result, they are working to position themselves to a wider array of consumers in the market. “We also want to build alliances with other companies and expand our inventory, volume and purchasing power,” he said.

Not to be outdone, LS Duhaney and Company Limited has been an active contributor to the development of the communities surrounding its business. “We get involved in different projects, and we are looking to doing more for this year. We believe it is important for us to be involved in community development and will continue to concentrate our efforts in our immediate environs,” Saunders said.
