James is to reappear in court on Monday, April 22.

A male teacher accused of sexually assaulting a female student was today granted $500,000 bail in the St Catherine Parish Court.

Marlon James, 44, who is charged with grievous sexual assault, was ordered by Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne to report to the Spanish Town Police Station each Wednesday, surrender his travel documents, and make no contact with the complainant, who is a minor.

His attorney Patrick Peterkin, in applying for bail, told the court that his client had surrendered to the police, is not a flight-risk, and stands ready to clear his name.

James is to reappear in court on Monday, April 22.

It is being alleged that in December 2023 the educator, who is a track and field coach, touched the female student-athlete inappropriately during a physical workout.

A report was made to the police's Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) and an investigation led to him being arrested and subsequently charged.
