Revolutionising learning in MoBay: Heinz Simonitsch School partners with The Learning Hub
WESTERN BUREAU:
In a ground-breaking move to embrace digital transformation in education, The Heinz Simonitsch School (HSS) in Montego Bay has announced a dynamic partnership with The Learning Hub, a leader in digital learning solutions.
This collaboration aims to equip students and teachers with cutting-edge tools to excel in today’s digital-first academic landscape.
“The initiative includes tailored resources to prepare Junior Four through Junior Six students for the PEP (Primary Exit Profile) exams, ensuring they’re equipped with skills for success,” Head of School at Heinz, Tamar McKenzie, told The Gleaner, hours after the signing in Kingston last weekend.
She said teachers won’t be left behind either. Professional development sessions led by The Learning Hub will empower educators to integrate digital resources effectively into their teaching practices.
A standout feature of the partnership is the on-campus collaboration with Dr Shalette Ashman, founder of The Learning Hub, esteemed author, and PEP expert. Dr Ashman will offer personalised support to teachers and students, sharing expert strategies for test preparation and curriculum design at the school.
Additionally, Heinz Simonitsch School will take a bold step by piloting a digital learning programme in Junior One. This study will assess the impact of technology on student outcomes, setting the stage for the school’s future in innovative education.
The school named in honour of the late Austrian-born hotelier, Heinz Simonitsch, who was the longest-serving managing director of the Half Moon Hotel, is known for its unwavering commitment to “Changing average into amazing”, said its new owner, McKenzie.
As part of this strategic alliance, the Montego Bay institution will integrate The Learning Hub’s Digital Library into its educational ecosystem. This platform offers interactive eBooks, practice tests, and multimedia resources aligned with the Jamaican curriculum, including preparatory tools for the PEP exams.
“The partnership ensures that HSS students benefit from access to cutting-edge digital tools designed to enhance engagement, improve academic performance, and foster a love for lifelong learning,” added McKenzie, who is also president of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association.
According to her, the partnership is a testament of their commitment to revolutionising education and ensuring her students are equipped with the tools they need to excel in the modern world.
“The Learning Hub’s expertise and resources perfectly align with our vision of creating a legacy of leaders and changemakers.”
Sharing McKenzie’s excitement about the collaboration, Dr Ashman, said she was thrilled to partner with the Heinz Simonitsch School and to bring the transformative power of digital learning to their students.
“Together, we will redefine what’s possible in education and ensure that every child has access to the resources they need to succeed.”
