Classes suspended at Oracabessa primary following fire
Classes at Oracabessa Primary School in St Mary have been suspended today following a major fire last night.
Three board-constructed classrooms, which were separate from the main concrete building, were destroyed, resulting in an estimated $5 million in damage.
A unit from the Ocho Rios Fire Station extinguished the blaze.
More than 600 students and a staff of 32 have been affected by the closure.
It is reported that shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, fire was seen coming from a section of the building, and the fire department was called.
It remains unclear whether the school will reopen on Friday to accommodate Jamaica Day activities.
