A total of 2,843 Jamaicans have been forcibly returned over the five-year period 2020 to 2024.

A total of 547 Jamaicans were deported back to their homeland last year, the latest Economic and Social Survey (ESSJ) has revealed.

Another 560 Jamaicans voluntarily returned home over the same period, according to the 2024 ESSJ published by the Planning Institute of Jamaica.

Both figures are slightly lower than 2023 when 574 Jamaicans were forcibly or involuntarily returned and 617 who opted to come back.

A total of 2,843 Jamaicans have been forcibly returned over the five-year period 2020 to 2024 — with a high of 653 in 2020 — because immigration violations or their involvement in criminal activities, according to the ESSJ.

Some 3,564 voluntarily returned to Jamaica over the same period, the 867 in 2021 being the highest in a calendar year.

A total of 2,063 came from the United States, while a combined 427 came from “other countries”.

United States authorities deported 323 Jamaicans last year, bringing the five-year tally to 1,746.

The ESSJ did not list the “other countries” that accounted for 149 deportations over the period.

The Jamaican Government disclosed recently that it has been notified by its American counterparts that there are nearly 4,000 Jamaicans with final deportation orders, with about 2,500 now confirmed for removal over time, based on legal and logistical considerations as part of the mass deportation campaign being undertaken by US President Donald Trump.
