A 21-year-old man was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, suspended for three years, for malicious destruction of UC RUSAL's copper cables in St Catherine Parish Court on Monday.

Davion Bailey of Byndloss district, St Catherine, had previously pleaded guilty to theft and malicious destruction.

He was admonished and discharged of the theft charge by Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyene.

The court was told that on December 1, 2025, security personnel in Banbury district saw Bailey cutting copper wires from facilities at UC RUSAL, a bauxite company.

A bag in his possession contained several feet of copper wire and a hacksaw.

He was later arrested and charged by Linstead police.
