CHAMPS 2017: 'I didn’t plan for a record' — Holmwood's Allison sets new hurdles mark

Shanette Allison of Holmwood Technical blazed a new trail with the second record of the 107th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships clocking a fast 13.30 seconds in heat two of the preliminary round of the girls Class Two 100m hurdles inside the National Stadium.

Allison underlined her credentials as one of the favourites for the gold medal, emphatically lowering, the previous mark of 13.37 seconds set in heat one by Britany Anderson of Vere Technical.

Allison’s time was clocked in a positive 0.3 metres per second wind speed.

“I didn’t plan for a record, it just happened today, and yes I am excited, but it’s back to the drawing board to challenge myself to go faster,” Allison said, in what could be an ominous warning to her main rivals.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Daszay Freeman of Manchester High easily qualified for the semi-final round in a comfortable 13.65 seconds

Earlier in heat one, Anderson, the Class Two favourite clocked a smooth 13.37 seconds to better the then previous mark of 13.38 seconds set by Camperdown's Peta-Gaye Williams in 2013.
