Grange moves to help athlete injured at Penn Relays
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, issued a statement last night confirming that Holmwood Technical High athlete, Samantha Pryce, broke her leg when she fell on the opening leg of the 4x800 metres at the Penn Relays in the United States.
“I can confirm that one of our young Jamaican athletes, Samantha Pryce, who represents Holmwood Technical High School, was injured while competing in the 4x800m at the Penn Relays,” Grange who is attending the Penn Relays said.
She added: “She has been taken to the Penn Medical Centre and we have been informed that she broke her leg when she fell in that race. She is currently being prepared for surgery. Samantha and all the Jamaican high school athletes competing at the Penn Relays have been registered on the ministry’s Athletes’ Insurance Programme; and we are making the arrangements to ensure that she gets the best care. I pray for a successful surgery and her speedy recovery.” Pryce won the Under-20 girls’ 3000 metres while competing for Jamaica at the recent Carifta Games in Kingston.
The event was won by Union Catholic High of New Jersey in nine minutes 13.08 seconds with Jamaica’s Edwin Allen High clocking 9:13.89 for second.
