National 800m champion Natoya Goule has expressed her delight after she was installed as the new brand ambassador of the Recycling Partners of Jamaica (RPJ) on Wednesday.

Dr Damien King, chairman of RPJ, made the announcement during a press briefing at the company’s office on Retirement Road in St Andrew. King told The Gleaner that the partnership is for one year and his organisation is looking forward to working with Goule over this period.

“There are a lot of Jamaicans who are very keen about managing our plastic waste better than we do,” Dr King said.

“They want us to have a more natural environment, but many of us still need to be persuaded and still need to be brought into thinking that this is something that we should do,” he said.

Dr King added that it is very important for his company to have brand ambassadors who resonate with the wider public, hence they have decided to choose Goule for this role.

“We are deeply proud of what our athletes do, but we also need a personality that naturally engages with people and that naturally attracts that kind of love and adoration, and that led us to Natoya Goule,” he said.

HAPPY WITH PARTNERSHIP

Goule, who is also the national 800 metres record holder, said she is very happy to be associated with the recycling company.

“It is a great pleasure for me to be partnering with Recycling Partners of Jamaica,” she said.

“As athletes, we always use water bottles whenever we go to track meets and we need to dispose of them properly.

“It is great to know that RPJ is partnering with us for the National Trials because we are able to dispose of our bottles without littering the environment,” Goule said.

She added that there are plastic bottles thrown away in a lot of places and ‘it is a great pleasure’ to be linked with a company that is moving to recycle these plastic bottles and to clean up the environment.

Goule is set to defend her 800m title at the National Championships, which started yesterday at the National Stadium.
