Brilliant Reid gives Glenmuir emphatic win
GLENMUIR HIGH School warmed up for the round of 16 in the ISSA daCosta Cup following an emphatic 8-0 drubbing of Tacky High in their second-round second-leg tie at Glenmuir High school yesterday.
David Reid took all the plaudits for the Andre Peart-coached side in the second leg, as his four goals plus two assists capped off what ended up being a 10-1 aggregate win for the Clarendon-based side.
Following the first leg 2-1 away win, Glenmuir were certainly expecting a much tougher fight from a spirited Tacky side. However, all that fight was sucked out of the away team from as early as the eighth minute of play when goalkeeper Hernan Nicely allowed a long-range ball from Glenmuir captain Zakari Messam to slip through his grasp and into the back of the net.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of the St Mary-based school, who would go on to concede seven more in the one-sided affair.
The man who led the onslaught was wily winger David Reid, who got his show up and running in the 26th minute, pouncing on a ball inside the area to slot home.
Reid would double his tally six minutes later after he ran unto a pin-perfect pass which split the Tacky backline and slotted home past the advancing Nicely.
Reid would have to wait until the second half for his hat-trick, as, in minute 61, he dribbled inside from the left and rifled a shot past the Tacky custodian to make it 4-0.
As if that was not enough, Reid was at it again two minutes later to seal a four-timer to the delight of the man who wears the number-11 shirt.
“It feels good to score four goals today with my mother and father watching from the sidelines. I hope to score more and create more goals,” added Reid.
Those goals that Reid created benefitted substitute Jhovaughn Boyd who came on and scored a brace in the 68th and 82nd minutes. Oniel Headly would get Glenmuir’s other goal in the 77th minute in a performance that was pleasing to head coach Peart.
“Overall, it was a massive team performance and it is just another step on the journey. As we climb higher, the competition gets tougher. So we need to be better every game we play.”
That tough assignment for Glenmuir will start on Saturday when they face former champions St Elizabeth Technical to kick-start their campaign in the round of 16.
