JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL and Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey says growing up with nothing has spurred a spirit of giving back that he, through his foundation, promises to keep alive.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Bailey revealed that giving back is as good for him as it is for those who his Leon Bailey Foundation helps.

“Why it means a lot for me to give back is due to my upbringing and where I’m from. So, I know what having nothing means, that’s why giving back is so important. Sometimes you have a lot of people out there that feel lost, feel that they have nothing and all they need is a little support. When I give back, I know that I’m helping somebody and I know what the situation is, so it makes me feel good as well,” he said.

HOSPITAL DONATION

Just recently, Bailey said his foundation donated $1.2 million in products, including diapers and sanitary napkins to the Victoria Jubilee Hospital where he was born.

“At that time of the year, we heard the hospital was over-packed and they really needed the help so I decided to help out everybody there and that’s what we did and it was brilliant.”

Bailey, who has represented the country on 18 occasions, added that he has never imagined what his life would have been without the game of football.

“No, I’ve never imagined and would never want to imagine because that wouldn’t be anything nice. I’m really grateful for where I’m at today and it’s been a long journey. Trust me, it’s not been easy, but I’m very grateful to God for putting me in this position to be able to give back,” Bailey added.
