‘Big 12’ to face biggest test to date
JAMAICA’S TOP heavyweight boxing prospect, Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown, faces the most serious challenge of his young professional career when he goes up against Hungarian boxer Jozsef ‘The Gladiator’ Darmos over eight rounds on Saturday at the Pickering Casino Resort in Pickering, Canada.
Brown, who has been a professional boxer since February 2022, goes into the fight with a 9-0 record, and none of his fights have gone the distance. His hope is to end the year with a perfect 10-0 record, and he will therefore be going all out to achieve this goal.
Darmos, who has been fighting since September 2015, has a record of 14 wins, six losses and three draws, and will definitely be the most experienced fighter Brown has fought. Darmos has knocked out 10 of his opponents and been knocked out four times.
Brown, at 6’ 7”, will have a height advantage as Darmos is only 6’ 2” and he will also be heavier than his opponent. Darmos is, however, much more experienced, having been a professional since September 2015, and has 14 more fights.
The pattern in all of Brown’s fights is for him to go after his man with a knockout in mind, and invariably when he connects with his lethal right hooks and uppercuts, his opponent goes down and is eventually either counted out, or the referee stops the fight. With his years of experience, Darmos may be able to use his ring skills to keep Brown at bay, and he has to do so, if he is going to win. If he does not achieve this goal and falters, then he will lose.
It should be an interesting fight, with the odds in Brown’s favour, but if he gets careless and leaves himself open, then he will taste defeat for the first time in his pro career.
Another Jamaican, Kemahl ‘The Hitman’ Russell with a 15-1 record, will also be on the card in an eight-round contest against Mexican Rafael Amarillas Ortiz.
Russell came back to the ring this year after a five-year layoff, and has won two fights by TKO.
