Britain-born bobsleigher makes switch to Jamaica
CARDIFF, Wales (CMC):
Former Great Britain Winter Olympian Mica Moore has officially switched allegiance and will now represent Jamaica in bobsleigh, a move she describes as a “tremendous honour”.
The 32-year-old made history for Team GB alongside Mica McNeill, achieving the nation’s best-ever finish in women’s bobsleigh with an eighth-place result at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
However, Moore parted ways with the British programme in 2022, citing experiences of “damaging and offensive behaviour” during her tenure.
The former sprinter competed for Wales in the 4x100m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, finishing seventh in the final.
Following an extensive application process, Moore confirmed her Jamaican citizenship on New Year’s Eve. Today she will return to competitive bobsleigh at the Europe Cup monobob event in Lillehammer, proudly sporting the green, black, and gold of her grandfather’s homeland.
Moore has expressed deep pride in embracing her Jamaican heritage, and aims to make history once again, this time for Jamaica. Her ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics and deliver the nation’s strongest-ever finish in women’s bobsleigh.
“I want to show what I’m able to achieve, not just for myself but also for my nation. A crazy goal is to get Jamaica their best result [at an Olympics]. But you’ve got to get there first.
“You’ve got to tick all the boxes and make sure your seat’s on that plane,” Moore said in an interview with BBC Sport Wales.
